myPlaylist anomaly

I have a seasons pass for CBS Sunday Morning News. On Sunday afternoon, I pulled up myPlaylist to find the program, and it wasn't listed. So, I went into Recording History, and sure enough, it was showing as having been recorded earlier in the day. But it wasn't in myPlaylist. ???

I re-started the DVR, and after the restart finished, the program appeared in myPlaylist. Have others experienced similar issues? I believe this is the first time it has happened to me.

Chicago HD Local channel spot beam width

I live in Chicago with a cabin in Northern Wisconsin (Minocqua 300 miles north).  I have been moving my SD receiver with me for years and get the Chicago locals with no problem.   I have switched to an HD receiver now.  I mounted the new dish.  I get everything except for the locals now.   yes,  I understand there is a spot beam, but should I be able to get cbs, nbc, abc and wgn in Wisconsin?  I noticed I am getting some of the locals.  Chn 13,23,38 and 62.   When I compared my sat signals from home to Wisco,  I noticed I have more 00's and weaker signals on the transponders on 99(s).    Do I need to try to better aim my antenna since I am getting some locals or is this a hopeless proposition?  Thanks for reading.

DirecTV Latin America / Need equipment

I'm a US DirecTV dealer installer.  I have a job in the Bahamas where i need to purchase 60 LH-26 or 60 LHR-26 satellite receivers for a hotel / casino.  I've tried going through DirecTV Trinidad with not much luck.  I'm not as much interested in the programming residuals, just need equipment.  The owners were to supply the receivers but dropped the ball.  Trying to have this up and working by Superbowl.  I also know that DirecTV Latin America doesn't carry NBC, so, i would assume that it would be carried on another Spanish channel?

HD DVR Doesn't Record Some Shows

The HD DVR in one bedroom skips some shows and records others. Last night it didn't record Scorpion even though the orange light was on, but it recorded NCIS: LA right after it. That was on the HR-24. It was also doing that on the HR-22 was in the same room before. The signal on all the boxes are in the upper 90's. It only skips recordings in the one bedroom. Thanks for any info on this.

Sorry I should have posted this in the HD DVR forum.

H24 no required to be returned?

Im sure this has been answered 100 times but I didnt find it in the search.

I just deactivated 2 H24-100's and the CSA said they are not taking them back.  Is that true?  Seems like a relatively new receiver to not ask for it but I was wondering what the experience has been.  She said she noted the account just in case.

Is this true based on the experiences of the masses?

Advice request: using a disconnected receiver located in another place

Hi all - Shortly I will need to spend some time at the home a close family member that has recently passed.  The decedent had DirecTV.   When I informed DirecTV of his passing (something I saw as the right thing to do at the time) they shut everything down ... even though I asked them not to, indicating I would continue to pay the bill.  Frankly it was a difficult conversation with a rather rude DirecTV rep.  In any case, the equipment is still in place and I would like to activate it for the period of time I will be spending there.  I am a good long time customer of DirecTV myself.  Options available to me include:

1.  bringing a card from one of my home receivers for use there

2.  adding one of the receivers at the other location to my own subscription.  The equipment is newer than one I have anyway.

3.  attempting to ask DirecTV to reactivate under the former subscription or under mine.  My last conversation seems to indicate this would not work.  If I recall - they were telling me that I would have to purchase a brand new 2 year subscription.

Would anyone be able to provide some advice on my best chance of success?

Side note:  DirecTV sent return boxes to the home which were then forwarded to my home - far away.  I am unable to do anything with them from my location and I cannot pack them for an airline trip.  So Directv may not see the former account as 'in good standing'.  I'm not sure and, as notifying them created the issue in the first place, I am reticent to try it again.

Terrible PQ with brand new install. Pixelation abounds.

Local FOX HD Guide Data incorrect - missed recordings

$

Just noticed this issue last night after my Gotham and Sleepy Hollow series recordings did not record. :bang

Not sure how long it's been like this as I do not watch FOX much. My local FOX HD channel (WTLH Fox 49 Tallahassee) is showing some other channel's programming guide data in the guide.  I noticed this when I kept seeing programming like The Andy Griffith Show, MASH, Taxi, Cheers, etc repeated over and over again in prime time and figured something was up.  If I tune to the channel, regular FOX programming was on and not these shows that the guide is showing.

Anyone know what could be causing this?  Never had an issue like this before.  My main DVR is Genie model HR44.

Thanks.

HR34 randomly restarting

I searched and didnt see this but I could have missed it.  So please link me to it if I did miss the thread.

My HR34 has been randomly restarting for the last 5 months maybe.  I called back in October after it happened multiple times close together and they had me run through reboots etc and told me to call back if it did it again.  It has done it maybe 2 times since but when it did it 20 minutes ago, I finally called.

I told them I wanted a replacement since I have been paying for the protection plan for years and only used it once.  But that I wanted to wait till I could watch some of the stuff I had recorded first.

Is there a known cause for the restarts?  I have run the system test and it doesnt find anything.

From ARS Technica:

Viacom and ESPN fined for using emergency alert tones to advertise movie
"Olympus Has Fallen" ad used Emergency Alert System tones, bringing $1.4M fine.

Viacom and ESPN must pay $1.4 million to the government as punishment for airing a movie commercial that misused Emergency Alert System (EAS) warning tones.

The commercial for the 2013 film Olympus Has Fallen used actual emergency alert tones along with messages such as "This is not a test" and "This is not a drill." The Federal Communications Commission prohibits transmission of actual or simulated EAS tones except during real emergencies or authorized tests.

Florida Communications Tax May Go Down

Well gee Mr Scott might lower our tax of the current 13.17% to a lower rate. Over $20 every month on my bill goes to Florida. It is the biggest joke I ever saw since moving here. Yet cable pays much less, they will get a reduction also. How much it gets reduced and if depends on approval from Mr Scott's elves.

I am so pissed,  I don't know whether to scream,  break something,  cry.  Or all of the above!

R15-500.

Why would the receiver decide to reformat itself,  with no user approval first?  Part of me thinks DirecTV sent it a reformat instruction on purpose!!!

Dish Wins a Round On Hopper

Hopper doesn't go back to same program in recording list

I distinctly remember watching a recorded show from DVR and when it's over and I hit Cancel, the recorded show listing would come back and the show folder would be selected.

Now, after cancel, the same page of the DVR containing the show appears, but the upper left folder is highlighted - not the folder of the show I was watching.

Other times, I'll hit cancel expecting the recordings page to show up. Instead, the screen goes to black for about 7 seconds, then live TV appears.

Anyone else seen these happenings?

Yes, I've rebooted.

Just ANOTHER DTV Monthly Charge Whine...

$
0
0

As the title says, this is just a Direct TV whine, so if you're not in the mood to read yet another tail of "inaccurate" information, feel free to move on to something happier....

Looked at Dish and DTV.  Been with DTV for the last 10+ years, so yes, I SHOULD have known I'd get innacurate informatoin.  But, at the beginning of the month I bounced my way around DTV and eventually got a person that took the information of what we wanted (genie, 2 minis, HR24), and upon my SPECIFIC REQUEST, gave me the MONTHLY CHARGE inclusive of new discounts (minimal), and all other charges...  The monthly bill was going to increase approximately $3.  So, OVERALL, with the change from the Dish discount first year to the second year, Dish and DTV were within $3 of each other.  For Dish being $3 less/month, and since DTV is the evil I know, as opposed to the unknown, it seemed reasonable to renew.

Today, the first bill showed up <y'all know where this is going, right?>  Yup, nowhere near a $3 difference.  Bill is actually almost 20% higher.

Mea culpa, I SHOULD have listened to the folks in this forum that recommended changing to Dish...

Called Directv...  Got the phone answerer.  Did the Q&A dance.  She couldn't "do anything" so I requested someone who COULD address the billing disparity...  Back on hold...  10 minutes and approximately 6 DTV commercials later I received the standard hang-up dial tone.

Called again.  Got a new phone answerer.  Explained again, and requested someone higher up the food chain.  Actually GOT a very nice person with whom I had a nice conversation, expressing my dismay that the stated price and actual price were so drastically different.  Unfortunately, even with her assistance the monthly charge will be considerably more than I was assured it would be.  On TOP OF WHICH I received notification approximately 10 DAYS after renewing that the programming price would increase in February.

<heavy sigh>  I think someone at DTV should at LEAST have bought me dinner before...

BTW:  The supervisor with whom I spoke suggested I go to the dTV website where I'd find a "dispute bill" link that would enable me to let someone in corporate know I had an issue.  Unfortunately, I haven't found the link yet.

I promise, in 2 years, when I'm back here researching whether to move away from DTV, I'll listen to the folks telling me to go.

Total loss of signal -receiver or lnb?

$

I came home to find a total loss of signal situation.   31-12-45 error code.   Tried resetting the box a few times.    I ran a counter diagnostic but don't know what to look for.    Switch test?

Can someone tell me what to look for to determine if this is a bad receiver or a bad lnb?    Or?

I am not under contract so am thinking I should order the maintenance plan asap.

suggestions?
